Part-time work is not only a great way to earn money while in school, it is also an excellent way to expand your communication skills, gain practical experience, build a strong resume and increase your overall value to future employers.
The Student Employment Office (SEO) located in the Career Services Center offers the following resources and advice for finding on- and off-campus work. Visit us in person (#1 Elliott University Center) for more assistance in making meaningful decisions about your part-time job choices.
Two Types of Part-Time On-Campus Jobs
- Federal Work-Study Jobs
- Federal Work-Study (FWS) is a federally funded program for students who qualify as part of their financial aid package. To be considered for FWS, a student must be enrolled at least half-time and have documented financial need by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). More information is available at: http://fia.dept.uncg.edu/workstudy
- Numerous UNCG departments and offices employ eligible students through this program. All Federal Work Study positions are posted on SpartanCareers.
- Departmental (Non-Work-Study) Jobs
- Approximately 800 positions are available for students each year. Departmental positions are fully funded through individual UNCG offices and departments. Most enrolled students are potentially eligible for these positions.
- Finding Departmental Jobs
A great resource for finding on-campus employment is SpartanCareers where many departments post their openings. Students may also discover departmental jobs by directly contacting offices/departments for availability of positions or for an application. Identify offices of interest (especially in your major) and contact the department for more information.
