Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology are components of a large field of study called Communication Sciences and Disorders. Specifically, Audiology focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of hearing problems, while Speech-Language Pathology deals with the prevention, assessment, and treatment of disorders of voice, fluency, sound production, language use and language comprehension. Currently, a Master’s degree is required to practice in Speech-Language Pathology. An AuD. Or Ph.D. is the required professional degree in Audiology. UNCG does offer a Ph.D. in Communication Sciences and Disorders but not the AuD. degree. UNCG also offers a B.S. in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. Upon completion of a master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or an AuD. or Ph.D. in Audiology, students may apply for certification by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and licensure by the North Carolina Board of Examiners.
