Engineers design and create most of the products and environments in the 21st century. From highway design to computer
software engineering you’ll find engineers providing the ideas and the detailed designs that make our complex scientific
society work. You’ll need good math skills and good problem-solving skills to succeed in any field of engineering. Engineers
frequently work as a part of a team so develop the ability to work with others. Mathematics and physics form the foundation
of many areas of engineering so be sure that you are good at these subjects. Your preparation should include the study of
calculus, differential equations, computers, and computer programming. The starting salaries for many engineers right out of
college are consistently among the highest starting salaries you’ll find in any field. And the satisfaction of working in a hightech
field with modern equipment and the latest computers will appeal to anyone with an interest in science and math. And it
doesn’t hurt that good engineers are in high demand, with the prospect of good jobs remaining high well nto the future. For
