Mathematics
is the study of quantitative relationships through mathematical
concepts and theories, which are expressed in numbers
and symbols. Mathematics may be pure (more theoretical)
or applied (more practical). Mathematics is an excellent
major for the student whose immediate objective is to
acquire a strong liberal arts education. Some major components
of this field are arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry,
calculus, probability, and statistics. UNCG offers a BA
and BS in Mathematics that can include teacher certification.
Mathematics majors may choose a concentration in applied
mathematics, pure mathematics, computer
science or statistics. UNCG also offers graduate programs leading to the MA
or Ph.D. degrees in Mathematics. For more information on the Mathematics major contact Alex Chigogidze in 383 Bryan Building or go to
www.uncg.edu/mat.
