English
is the study of language and literature. Students majoring
in English learn to think critically by evaluating the
speaking and writing of others and expressing their own
ideas and sentiments coherently. They also learn to alter
their work so that it is appropriate for their audience.
Some specialized areas of English include creative writing,
literature, linguistics, and journalism. UNCG offers a
BA in English that can include teacher certification.
An undergraduate English major can also be excellent preparation for law school, medical school, and business school. For more
information on the English major contact Dr. Scott Romine in 3143 Hall for Humanities and Research Administration. Visit the English program online at
www.uncg.edu/eng.
