Public Health Education

DESCRIPTION   [Top]
The Public Health Profession is dedicated to excellence in the practice of promoting individual, family, organizational, and community health. Contemporary Public Health interventions hold the potential to prevent or delay the onset of chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. In addition, Public Health Education programs have been successful in reducing the incidence of unintentional injuries and in promoting harm reduction related to drug use, suicide, anorexia and other self-destructive behaviors. The Department of Public Health Education offers a BS program with two distinct concentrations: Community Health Education and Health Studies. The Community Health Education concentration builds on these traditional Health Education content areas to provide students with the skills to design, implement, and evaluate Health Education programs in schools, communities, worksites, and governmental agencies. The Health Studies concentration provides students with information in a wide range of Public Health content areas such as personal health, disease processes, pidemiology, environmental health and alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. Along with careers in the work settings listed below, graduates of either program options can pursue Graduate Study in a wide range of health and human service related professions. For more information on the Public Health Education majors, contact Dr. Sharon Morrison, Director of the Undergraduate Program,437D HHP uilding.Contact:sdmorri2@uncg.eduor 336-334-3243.
