The B.S. in Accounting & Information Systems (AIS) responds to educational demands created through recent changes in the nature of business. Technological change in the structure of business organizations and activities has revolutionized the informational aspects of business systems. The traditional accounting system remains the core of these new information systems. Due to both of these factors, a large demand exists for undergraduates trained in both accounting and information systems (see The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Vision for 2011 and beyond, 1999).
At UNCG, the degree is designed for students who would otherwise seek an undergraduate degree in either accounting or information systems but have a preference for combining the two disciplines in preparation for employment. In addition, the B.S. degree is structured such that it leaves only two prerequisites that must be taken before full acceptance into MSA program in either accounting or information systems; both are offered at UNCG.
