Paid Internship

Landing the Internship.....
I found the internship on SpartanCareers. A career counselor in Career Services told me to look there to find out information every day. I kept checking back until I found the internship I wanted. I really liked the description of the company and the work I would be doing, so I took my resume to the Career Services Center and had it critiqued. I chose the internship based on the fact that it is a well-known company and that it is a paid internship. Also, there is no end date to the internship, which means that it has the possibility to grow into a full-time job one day.
The Internship Experience...
My main responsibility is managing part of the safety programs at Daimler Buses North America. I perform weekly inspections to make sure all employees are working safely, I also make sure all accidents and injuries are reported to OSHA. I assist in recruiting needs by pre-screening resumes before the human resources manager sees them. I assist with payroll processing on a weekly basis, and help with month end reporting. I also assist in coordinating monthly events for employees.
Advice to Students...
Check SpartanCareers every day. There are different internships posted there every day, so I think it's a good idea to make a habit of checking it daily. I would also make an appointment to talk to a career counselor for advice on how to apply and what to include in your resume. I would also attend any workshops dealing with internships. Also, make sure you create a resume, cover letter, and reference page that are aimed toward the internship position. I would also do some research. Talk to a lot of companies around Greensboro that offer jobs in your field of study. Even if they don't have internships, sometimes they can point you to one.
