FWS Community Service

Welcome to the Federal Work Study Community Service Program (FWSCS) page.  If you have been awarded Federal Work Study funds and are interested in earning your award at a community service site in the Greensboro area, you’ve come to the right place! Work study positions are available in areas including social services, literacy, education, housing, museums, and health care.

Work Study Community Service (FWSCS) participants learn about the community by working with 13+ partner organizations. Students may plan art projects, help with museum exhibits, tutor at-risk youth, organize programs for aging populations, or coordinate youth sports events. Most of the sites are located off-campus and logistics should be considered before applying for these positions. In order to view current openings, visit SpartanCareers and search under the Jobs tab for “FWSCS” in the Keyword(s) field. In recognition of the importance of these positions for our community as well as student learning, students will now earn $9.50/hour with an increased yearly Work Study award amount total of $2500.

Application Process
In order to apply to the program, please e-mail Lara Lange at lmlange@uncg.edu for an application. As part of the application process you will need to submit an up-to-date resume.  Once these materials have been submitted, you will be contacted to schedule a pre-screening interview with the SEO counselor.

Following the pre-screening interview, your application will be forward to the appropriate agency and you will be provided contact information to set up an on-site interview. It is your responsibility to get in touch with the representative and to discuss your work as a student employee.  This is to ensure that you get the most out of your experience.

If you accept a position offer, you must notify Lara Lange at either lmlange@uncg.edu or (336) 256-0394.

Checklist

Prior to the Pre-Screening Interview:

  • Review available positions and position descriptions for all participating community service sites on SpartanCareers.
