2009 Undergraduate Student Employee of the Year:
Krystal Ramseur
Employer: Campus Recreation
Position Title: Senior Supervisor/Program Assistant,
Intramural Sports/Intramural Supervisor
Nominator: Nicole Piscetelli
From the first time Krystal met the Assistant Director for Intramural & Club Sports, she knew that Campus Recreation was the place for her. Her supervisor, Nicole Piscetelli, couldn’t agree more. According to Piscetelli, Krystal’s “ambition, drive, dedication, genuine care for others and natural leadership ability” have led her to advance within the ranks. In her four years as an employee of the Campus Recreation Department, she has been promoted from intramural official to supervisor to program assistant.
In her letter of application Piscetelli raved that Krystal is a “highly motivated individual” who “constantly brings out the best not only in herself but her peers. What sets her apart is how the staff seeks her knowledge and her willingness to transfer that knowledge. Her peers highly respect her which is evident in how they interact on and off shift.” She has “made a lasting impact with both the professional and student staff.”
In addition to working on campus, Krystal has found opportunities to be involved in campus life. Her extracurricular activities have included: Phi Sigma Pi Honor Fraternity, Destination UNCG Campus Recreation Representative, SOAR Orientation Campus Recreation Representative and Intramural Sport participant. In her words “I have made lifelong friendships and was able to develop into a more confident leader. The experiences I have overcome throughout this time will forever follow me in life and I am very thankful for that.”
Krystal graduates this May with a Bachelor of Arts in History and a minor in Political Science and plans to pursue a legal education and a career in politics.
2009 Graduate Student Employee of the Year:
Jessica Criswell
Employer: Orientation and Family Programs
Title: Graduate Assistant, Student Programs
Nominator: Dr. Kim Sousa-Peoples
Jessica moved to Greensboro to begin her Masters in Student Personnel Administration in Higher Education, and began working Orientation & Family Programs at UNCG in August 2007. In her role as a graduate assistant, Jessica has been responsible for a variety of projects to include the recreation of the Transfer & Adult SOAR, the Spartan EXPO, Rawkin' Welcome Week events, and co-advising the University Marshals. During her time at UNCG, she has also had the privilege of working in the Dean of Students as a Conduct Officer, and as an intern in Student Academic Services.
Nominator Kim Sousa-Peoples describes Jessica as an individual who “routinely goes above and beyond, giving more than 20 hours a week to get the job done.” Due to her “reputation as a reliable and trustworthy employee and her ability to learn quickly and deliver quality work, Dean of Students, Jen Day Shaw, specifically requested her assistance this past fall during a staffing shortage.” She has displayed nothing but “unwavering dedication” and an “impeccable work ethic”.
Jessica is graduating with her Masters in May 2009, and while very excited for the next step in her life, is very sad to be leaving the UNCG community. She knows that attending UNCG is one of the best decisions she's made, and credits the learning and opportunities she has been given to the amazing people at UNCG. Jessica was so surprised to find out she was nominated for "Graduate Student Employee of the Year" and then even moreso that she won. She has remained dedicated to the opportunities she has been afforded, and is so flattered that the people around her recognized that hard work and dedication.
Jessica thanks the UNCG community for everything and will miss you too!
