Part-Time Job Search Advice

More than 800 departmental (non-work-study) jobs are available each year in numerous UNCG offices and departments. Here are a few tips for finding and landing these jobs:

Take the Initiative
Most jobs on campus are found by directly contacting UNCG offices and departments. Some departments regularly collect job applications and review them when positions become available.

Research
Browse UNCG's online “A-Z Index” of offices and departments to identify potential work sites. Click through their web pages to get a sense of their role on campus. Some departments include detailed descriptions of their typical student positions.

Ask Around (Network!)
One of the best ways to learn about jobs and get the “inside track” on openings is to ask other faculty, staff and student employees. Ask classmates to refer you if they plan to leave their jobs. Get to know faculty and staff members and talk to them about your interests and the skills you could bring to a job. Positions are quickly filled when students and staff recommend potential candidates.

Act Early and Don’t Give Up
If you want to work on campus, the sooner you begin job searching the better. At the same time, never give up your search – jobs regularly open up on campus just when it seems as though there are no more. Be sure to check on SpartanCareers regularly for new or updated student jobs.
