What is the Discovery Chicago Externship Program?
The Discovery Chicago Externship Program is a unique learning and living experience in Chicago.
The program is held May 18-29, 2009, at the end of the UNCG spring semester. Participants of the program will live with UNCG alumni and their family and go to work with UNCG alumni for the externship experience.
The short but intensive externships are available in the fields of business (undergraduates only), human resources and library studies. During the externships, participants will tryout and learn more about the respective fields, network and interact with professionals and complete assignments/projects. At the end of the experience, a special farewell dinner will be held for participants.
This unique program provides an opportunity for UNCG students to build relationships with UNCG alumni and learn more about working and living in a major metropolitan city. The program is provided through the UNCG Alumni Association in conjunction with Career Services.

Can I apply if my major is not business, human resources or library studies?
Yes, this program is open to all majors.

Is the program open to all students?
The program is open to sophomores, juniors, seniors and graduate students. Undergraduate students may apply for any of the externships. Graduate students may only apply for the human resources and library studies externships.

How will I get to Chicago?
Roundtrip airfare is provided at no cost to UNCG students.

Who will I be lodging with and where will I be working for the two week experience?
Once in Chicago students will lodge with UNCG alumni and their family. Externships will be held at the Wheaton Chamber of Commerce, DeVry University (Human Resources) and the Center for Research Libraries. What happens after I apply?
Students selected for interviews will be notified by Career Services. Interviews will be held the week of March 30. The externs will be selected and notified at the beginning of April.

Additional Information
Students who participate in the program are expected to complete a portfolio/scrapbook about their experience.
