THE SPARTAN
EXPERIENCE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Goal: Under the auspices of the university,
the Spartan Experience offers an alternative to a credited internship to
introduce students to the world of work while maintaining high quality
preparation and evaluation of experiences. It minimizes unprepared and
unsupervised students participating in internships and provides a solid
theoretical and pre-professional experience upon which students may build
as they continue with later internships for academic credit.
Conducted via: Blackboard class
and attendance at two in-person seminars at the beginning of the semester
and one debriefing session at the conclusion of your internship.
Enables students to:
1. receive recognition on UNCG transcript.
2. become eligible for liability insurance
program for interns.
3. join a community of learners completing
the internship experience.
4. opportunity
to engage in reflective process of internship experience
through on-line discussion
and instructor initiated questions.
5. receive
written evaluations of their experience from employers.
6. receive
support from a university supervisor in resolving on-site
issues or problems.
How to become involved:
1. Each student
must arrange his/her internship prior to the start of class.
2. Open to any student who has attained
a minimum of sophomore
level (30 credit hours).
3. GPA minimum
of 2.25 and is in good academic standing
4. Participate
in an 80 contact hour supervised internship.
5. Enroll in
SEP 100 (Spartan Experience Program) through UNC Genie
for (maximum 10 students)
during pre-registration.
6. Set up a
learning contract at your internship site and pay for UNCG
liability insurance
($20.00).
7. Participate
in class discussion about internship issues.

8. Receive a final satisfactory evaluation from
your internship mentor.
9. Upon successfully completing the 80 hour internship
program, you
will receive a designation
on your transcript of participation in the
Spartan Experience Program.
