IN-CLASS PRESENTATIONS [
Top]
At faculty request, a CSC staff member will provide an in-class presentation on resume writing, interviewing, internships, or another career-related topic. Presentations can vary in length to fit the available timeframe and information can be tailored to fit the specific needs of your class. While we enjoy having the faculty member present, with notice we can also plan to be there when you are away. Additionally, we can offer assistance in developing an assignment or class project which relates to careers. Call Career Services at 334-5454 to discuss possibilities or schedule a speaker.
REFERENCES FOR STUDENTS [
Top]
CSC's reference file service provides a system housing faculty references written on students' behalf. Students may set up a confidential or non-confidential file. For a confidential file the faculty member submits the reference in a sealed envelope, signed across the flap, directly to Career Services and it is placed in the student's file. A non-confidential letter may be reviewed by the student.
INFORMATION ON MAJORS [
Top]
The CSC Resource Center maintains up-to-date career
information to aid students considering career possibilities related to specific majors and interests. We appreciate your recommendations and/or donations of resources. You are invited to stop by to view our collection in 1 Elliott University Center or call 334-5454 to arrange for a guided tour.
An individual "major sheet" available for each undergraduate major provides information on the major, related careers, and on-site resources.
Majors sheets are available as handouts in the Career Resource Center (1 Elliott University Center). If you have not seen the information sheet for your academic area, we would be glad to supply a copy. Faculty feedback is appreciated.
Upon request CSC will consult with you on strategies to generate internships within your field, assist with the development of your academic internship program, or respond to internship-related questions.
CSC's Student Employment Office (SEO) assists campus employers with federal work-study and on-campus departmental hiring. All INS I-9 forms for student employees are processed by the SEO. The SpartanCareers website posts on-campus non-work-study positions, as well as work-study openings. On-campus employers interested in listing their departmental openings on SpartanCareers may contact the SEO at 256-0403 for further information.
SEO also assists students in identifying and applying for off-campus part-time jobs. Off-campus part-time jobs are also listed on SpartanCareers. For questions call the SEO at 256-0403 (fax: 256-0391).
If you have contacts in industry or community organizations who are interested in hiring UNCG graduates, CSC will invite them to participate in career days or on-campus interviews at your request. CSC can also provide information to employers regarding posting career opportunities on our website. When an employer posts a job listing for full-time employment, CSC can provide a referral of resumes from our database. Please contact Tony Abbruzzi at CSC (334-5454) for further information.
