Why UNCG

With over 18,000 students, UNCG is the largest university in the Triad, and the fifth largest in the UNC system. Our students are involved, prepared, and diverse.

Involved
UNCG students are accomplished and active. Over 25% double major or have both a major and a minor. Almost 40% participate in sports, including inter-collegiate, club, and intramural teams. Our students support over 180 campus organizations every year.

A growing number of our students regularly take part in service activities. As many as 44% of UNCG students served the community during the 2009-2010 school year.

Prepared
UNCG students exemplify responsibility and are prepared to work to make your company a success. Over 72% of current students hold part-time or full-time jobs while pursuing their degree.

Each year UNCG sends over 200 students to study abroad in over 35 countries around the globe.

Diverse
The UNCG student body is one of the most diverse in the UNC system. Over 25% of UNCG students classify themselves as minority students and almost one-fourth of undergraduates were 24 years of age or older when they first enrolled. UNCG also has a growing population of veterans and international students.
Distinctions
UNCG hosts one of only six Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society chapters in North Carolina. UNCG’s Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa has been named “the most outstanding chapter at a public university” by the national honor society.

In August 2010, UNCG and NC A&T enrolled the first class of graduate students in The Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering. Through this partnership, UNCG is on the forefront of the emerging Nanoscience field.
